Balance is key to work life while divorcing

Posted by Rob Levengood | Jun 24, 2020 | 0 Comments

Going through a divorce is among the most stressful experiences a person can endure. It can be extraordinarily taxing emotionally, mentally and financially. According to some evaluative studies, the stress of divorce is second behind the death of a loved one. In Pennsylvania, many divorcing people struggle to maintain their energy and focus in other areas of life like work. Work success is critical to a contented existence, but divorce can make that difficult. Some tips for maintaining focus at work include filtering advice, being honest, seeking support and maintaining balance.

A person is likely to receive advice from a wide variety of sources once they know about the divorce. Most of the advice is well-intentioned, at least, but it may not be as useful as the purveyor believes. It's important to take the advice with a grain of salt and only use it to the extent it improves the situation. At the same time, it's also important to be honest with coworkers, friends and loved ones, and to allow them to give the support they can.

Divorce is a lonely process as it requires saying goodbye to a person that was once loved and saying goodbye to certain hopes and dreams as well. Professionals like therapists, counselors, psychiatrists and psychologist may be especially helpful in getting the divorcing person to focus on the right things going forward.

An attorney who handles divorce cases might also be able to help by preparing necessary filings and advising the client regarding what to expect as they move through the divorce. An attorney in Pennsylvania might help the client or couple identify and organize assets or help with the negotiation of the property settlement. He or she may also create a child custody plan for approval by the court or represent the client during child support hearings or other court proceedings.
