What are common concerns with temporary child custody issues?

Posted by Rob Levengood | Jun 29, 2021 | 0 Comments

Temporary child custody arrangements can become messy, complicated affairs with many details that need to be sorted. Every state, including Pennsylvania, has its own unique procedures for such an arrangement. You may want to consider hiring a legal professional to help you navigate this process and ensure that you can work toward the best possible outcome.

When is a temporary child custody agreement appropriate?

Temporary child custody is necessary under a number of circumstances. These include:

– Other responsibilities, such as work or other family obligations, result in a parent being away for an extended period of time.
– A parent faces medical illness or temporary hospitalization.
– A parent is unable to meet the financial responsibilities associated with child custody.

There are other reasons for a temporary child custody agreement, but these are among the most common. In each situation, a family court will consider the best interest of the child to come up with a temporary solution.

What about visitation rights?

Generally speaking, visitation rights are not particularly controversial in a temporary child custody arrangement because the arrangement is not supposed to be for an extended period of time. As such, visitation is usually granted for the non-custodial parent. The only circumstances in which this may not be the case is if there are concerns about the welfare of the child or the potential for a child to be harmed by the actions of the visiting parent.

Given the complexities within this field and the difficulty of navigating certain custody issues, it may be wise to connect with a family law attorney. A legal professional may help ensure that you are taking all appropriate steps to establish temporary child custody if the court sees fit to grant it.
